Description

ПThe monument to Peter the Great this is the sculpture of Peter I which is made from bronze. He is dressed in the simple clothes. By the right hand he is leaning on the big anchor and his left leg is standing on the skein of the rope. By the left hand he is pointing to somewhere ahead. The sculpture is located on the granite cylindrical pedestal with wide bottom part. On the pedestal is located the bas-relief of the double-headed eagle which is the coat of arms of the Russian Federation. Under the bas-relief there is a memorial inscription “Peter the Great”. On the bottom part of the pedestal there is a wreath from bronze around the pedestal.

Creation history

The monument was established in 1998 in the Izmaylovo estate on the island on the Serebryano-Vinogradny pond. The monument was established in honor of 300 Years of the Russian Navy. The place for the monument was chosen because here in the estate of the tsar Aleksey Mikhailovich young Peter found the boat which became the grandfather of the Russian Navy.

How to find

To reach the monument to Peter the Great you should go to the metro station Partizanskaya (partisan`s) and exit to Proektiruemuy (Projected) passage 6605. Turn right and go along this passage till Proektiruemuy passage 6604. On the crossroad turn left and go along Proektiruemuy passage 6604 to the Serebryano-Vinogradny pond. There tur right and go along embankment of the pond to the second Bauman bridge. Cross the bridge on the Izmaylovo island to the Izmaylovo estate. After the bridge turn right and go toward the first Bauman bridge. Next to this bridge turn left and go about 40 meters to the small park there you will find the monument to Peter the Great.
